Alison Brie is undeniably one of the most exciting additions to the Scream 4 cast. Her interviews have consistently been a highlight, offering fans fresh insights and keeping the excitement alive without spoiling the mystery. Her latest conversation with PopWrap is no exception, as she opens up about her role, her love for the franchise, and the film’s return to its roots.
Brie plays Rebecca, Sidney Prescott’s (Neve Campbell) assistant, a character who brings a fresh dynamic to the Scream cast. “Rebecca sort of idolizes Courteney Cox’s character. She really looks up to Gale Weathers,” Brie explained, noting how Rebecca channels some of Gale’s go-getter energy from the original film.
For Brie, joining the Scream universe was a dream come true. “I was completely obsessed with the Scream movies growing up. I’ve seen them over and over,” she shared. Her connection to the series even predates her casting, as she recalls watching the iconic Scream 2 opening scene being filmed at the Rialto Theater in her hometown of South Pasadena.
Brie also teased that Scream 4 will appeal to longtime fans and newcomers alike.
“Scream 4 is very much like the original—it’s all about going back to their roots and blending the old-school cast members with the next generation. It’s a rebirth of the original.”
This fusion of legacy characters with new blood has been a central theme of the Scream 4 promotional campaign, promising a mix of nostalgia and fresh twists for fans.
Brie’s experience on Mad Men helped her navigate the veil of secrecy surrounding Scream 4. “I’d gone through it with Mad Men, so I’m no stranger to keeping secrets,” she admitted, proving that she’s more than capable of keeping Ghostface’s surprises under wraps.
With her enthusiasm, humor, and deep respect for the franchise, Alison Brie is sure to leave her mark on Scream 4.
