Confirmed: SCREAM 7 is in development and will be helmed by Christopher Landon.
EDIT (18:15 BRT) The Hollywood Reporter confirmed Christopher Landon as the director of the next SCREAM film. The following article was written a few hours before the THR announcement.
(16:07 BRT) Renowned horror platform Bloody Disgusting has offered insights into the ongoing development of SCREAM 7, raising the possibility of a new helmer taking the Ghostface reins.
Speculation surrounding the possible departure of Radio Silence, the filmmaking collective led by Directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, along with producer Chad Villella, from the seventh installment has been gaining traction on Twitter for several weeks. This conjecture got credibility following an article penned by BD website’s Editor-in-Chief, John Squires.
Given the source’s reputation for accuracy and reliability, another intriguing tidbit became more substantial: Christopher Landon, known for his work on “Freaky” and the “Happy Death Day” franchise, is reportedly engaged in negotiations to assume the directorial role.
The origins of this buzz can be traced back a few months when Landon began following several members of the prospective SCREAM 7 cast on Instagram. Additional sources contend that the agreement was forged prior to the onset of the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strikes. While these strikes could potentially delay the official greenlighting of SCREAM VII, they haven’t deterred progress.
This unfolding narrative seems even more plausible when we consider that SCREAM VI was already deep into advanced production six months before the release of SCREAM V. This insight was shared during our interview with Michele Lalibertè, the production designer of the most recent installment.
The current focus of Radio Silence on the Untitled Monster Movie, starring Melissa Barrera and Kathryn Newton from “Freaky,” serves as an explanation for the potential departure of the accomplished team behind the success of SCREAM (2022) and SCREAM VI.
