Scream 8 Is Officially in the Works

Scream 8 is in the works with Poker Face showrunners Nora and Lilla Zuckerman writing the script after Scream 7 passed $200 million worldwide.

Just when Scream 7 finished carving its way into the franchise history books, Spyglass decided not to let the blood dry.

According to Deadline, Scream 8 is now in development, with sisters Nora and Lilla Zuckerman attached to write the screenplay. The news arrives as Scream 7 crosses the $200 million mark worldwide — the first film in the series to ever hit that milestone in the franchise’s nearly 30-year run.

That number matters. Not just because it looks nice in a headline, but because it confirms something the studio was always going to pay attention to: Scream is still commercially lethal.

Scream 7 opened to a franchise-best $97.2 million worldwide, and it has now climbed to roughly $204.1 million globally, overtaking every previous Ghostface outing in the process.

And now comes the next big question: who exactly are the women writing Sidney Prescott’s next nightmare?

The Zuckerman sisters

The Zuckerman sisters are best known in recent years for serving as showrunners on Peacock’s Poker Face, the sharply constructed mystery series created by Rian Johnson and led by Natasha Lyonne. That credit alone makes this a fascinating choice. Poker Face thrives on structure, character gamesmanship, misdirection, and a confident sense of tone — all things a good Scream movie needs in its bloodstream. Deadline also notes that the duo previously worked as writers and co-executive producers on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Suits, Fringe, and Prodigal Son.

There is also a Buffy-side footnote here that genre fans will clock immediately. Nora and Lilla Zuckerman were attached to write, showrun, and executive produce the Hulu continuation of Buffy the Vampire Slayer before that project was later scrapped. That does not tell us much about Scream 8 creatively, but it does underline where they currently sit in the industry: they are trusted names for legacy genre IP with a fanbase attached and expectations running sky-high.

For Scream, that combination could be especially useful.
