Independent publisher Stinger Books has announced the release of Scream Deconstructed: An Unauthorized Analysis, the first book to examine all four Scream films in-depth. Set for an online release on October 25, 2011, the 160-page book is already available for pre-order on Amazon at the price of $9.99.
Scream Deconstructed critically analyzes the postmodern Scream series, exploring the themes and characters across all four films. The book delves into how the movies tackle topics like film, media, sex, and society, offering fresh insights into the franchise’s cultural significance.
According to author Scott Kessinger, “Critics all seem to agree that the Scream movies had a lot going on under the surface, but there’s nowhere near as much literature about them as you might think. It inspired me to try to fill that void. There’s books like this for Star Wars, for The Simpsons, and now it’s Scream‘s turn.”
Kessinger, a freelance journalist, gained attention among fans with his thought-provoking articles about the Scream films. The enthusiastic feedback he received online encouraged him to write the book. While Scream Deconstructed is not officially licensed by The Weinstein Company, Wes Craven, or Kevin Williamson, Kessinger emphasized his commitment to respecting the intellectual property of the franchise.
“I made sure that it’s a nonfiction book about Scream, not something that simply resells the films’ content in a different package,” he explained.
The Scream franchise, starting in 1996, redefined the horror genre and continues to influence it today. With the release of Scream 4 earlier this year, the timing couldn’t be better for a book dedicated to unpacking the series’ layered narratives and cultural commentary.
