Patrick Dempsey Hints at a Return in Scream 7

Patrick Dempsey reveals discussions for his comeback.

Patrick Dempsey, who left an indelible mark on fans as Detective Mark Kincaid in Scream 3, recently hinted at the thrilling possibility of his return in Scream 7. In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE and during a recent appearance on The Today Show, Dempsey revealed ongoing discussions about reprising his role—a tease that has set the Scream fandom alight.

Well, they’ve been talking to me about it, and I think they’re still working on the script,” shared Dempsey. “And, of course, Neve [Campbell] has signed on, so I think we’ll see.

For devoted followers of HelloSidney.com, Dempsey’s return as Kincaid feels like it’s been years in the making. In fact, the character was initially set to appear in Scream (2022) and play an even larger role in Scream VI—details we uncovered in our exclusive article on the lost script of Scream VI. It’s safe to say that seeing Kincaid back would be a treat for fans who’ve missed this ally of Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell).

Dempsey’s Detective Kincaid, first introduced in Scream 3, captured fan interest with his empathy and dedication to protecting Sidney amid the Stab 3 murders. Their on-screen connection deepened into a romance that ultimately led to marriage, as hinted in Scream (2022) and confirmed by the film’s directors.

Scream 7: What’s Known So Far

Announced in August 2023, Scream 7 has already seen significant changes behind the scenes, with Kevin Williamson now at the helm as director. Neve Campbell’s recent confirmation of her return was a moment of celebration for fans, especially after her absence from Scream VI. The fan-favorite duo, Campbell and Williamson, recently teased on Instagram, “It’s gonna be a killer 2026,” announcing Scream 7’s release date: February 27, 2026.
