Mason Gooding is hyping up Scream 7, calling Ghostface “the most brutal he’s been” under Kevin Williamson’s direction. But if there’s one thing we’ve learned from this franchise, it’s that every new Scream promises a more vicious, more terrifying Ghostface — and delivers.
While promoting his new slasher Heart Eyes, Gooding spoke with multiple outlets, including Variety and the podcast I’ve Never Said This Before, with Tommy DiDario, dropping major hints about what fans can expect from the next chapter.
“I hope this isn’t a spoiler, but this one—it’s the most brutal I think Ghostface has been from an anatomically logistical standpoint. There’s a lot of blood and viscera,” he revealed.
Gooding also credited Kevin Williamson, who returns to the director’s chair after writing the original film and two sequels, for pushing the horror to new levels. “With Kevin Williamson directing—truly and clearly mentally sadistic—fans have a lot to look forward to with what we do to these characters.”
That wasn’t the only clue about the film’s intensity. Gooding also teased the incredible practical effects being used:
“There was a prosthetic that sat in the makeup trailer that actually turned my stomach over. You’ll know what I’m talking about when you see it, but it’s incredible stuff. They really have an incredible effects team over there and they’re working overtime.”
Spoilers? Bring It On!
During the interview with DiDario, Gooding playfully dodged questions about whether his character, Chad Meeks-Martin, would meet his demise early in Scream 7.
“Wouldn’t it be funny if I just told you right now whether I was or I wasn’t?” he joked before admitting, “I also am worried that someone from the studio would snipe me through the wall, so it is life or death.”
While he stopped short of confirming his fate, his playful energy suggests that Scream 7 won’t be holding back on shocking moments.
Gooding also shared his thoughts on the Scream fandom’s love for speculation and theories:
“I see it all. I love that a fan base cares enough to do the research and the investigation. I’ve never been worried about spoilers. For horror, it’s kind of fun because you’ll watch it and be like, ‘Is this the part where the thing happened?’ Even if you suss out a lot of the elements, the context and tension will always make it fresh when you see it.”
With leaks and set photos already making the rounds online, it’s clear that Scream 7 is fueling endless fan theories — and Gooding, instead of shying away from them, embraces the excitement.
Sharing the Screen with Neve Campbell
One of the biggest highlights for Gooding is finally getting to work closely with Neve Campbell, something he missed out on during Scream (2022).
“I get to work with Neve [in Scream 7], who I didn’t get a great opportunity to see and talk to on a personal level [on Scream 5]. So in this case, even just getting to be around her feels like I’m getting part of that history, and I feel better for it.”
With Campbell leading the charge, Williamson directing, and Gooding teasing Scream 7 as the most blood-soaked installment yet, fans are in for a ride when the film slashes into theaters in 2026.
