Sidney: “But this is life. It’s not a movie.”
Billy: “Sure it is, Sid. It’s all… it is all… It’s just one big movie. Only you can’t pick your genre.”
Do you ever feel like, to navigate reality, you take inspiration from a character in a book, a song, a TV show, or a movie?
Fiction is a powerful thing. It rewires the way we see and feel. It gives us a lens through which to understand the world, and that’s why this one moment in Scream has always hit so hard.
How Scream Changed My Life
I don’t usually get personal here, despite this being a fan site with its own personality—an “editorial view,” if you will.
But I can say, without hesitation, that Scream changed my life.
It helped me cope with grief, helped me learn not to feel like a victim, and gave me a character like Sidney Prescott to look up to.
💬 “I’m a fighter.”
That one line from Scream 2, and everything Sidney stood for, became a role model for me—one that still echoes through time and life.
And then, on November 11 of this year, something happened that I never imagined would:
I got to speak with Neve Campbell for two whole minutes—long enough to say thank you for the inspiration and how much it all meant to me.
I never thought I’d get that chance.
