Fans are buzzing with excitement as the cast and crew of ‘Scream 4‘ begin to speak out about the film. The first to comment on video since filming began was Hayden Panettiere, known for her role as the cheerleader on “Heroes.”
In the new ‘Scream‘ movie, Panettiere will portray Kirby Reed, a modern movie enthusiast reminiscent of Randy (Jamie Kennedy) from the original trilogy.
Last Saturday (17th), the actress took a break from filming in Michigan to attend a Malibu charity benefit, where MTV News caught up with her and got the inside scoop.
With the fourth chapter of the “Scream” franchise currently in production in Michigan, fans are eagerly seeking new details about the film’s mysterious plot. Panettiere assured MTV News that the filmmakers are honoring the legacy of the previous movies and that the production has been an enjoyable experience.
“I think it’s just perfect timing, the amount of time that has passed since the last one came out,” Panettiere, the former ‘Heroes’ star, told MTV News. “It’s a perfect setup, with all of these films … the [fictional] ‘Stab’ [movies] and all things like that. I think with all of the ‘Scream’ [films], the idea is to throw the audience for a loop every time.”
She acknowledged that surprising a savvy audience is more challenging this time around.
“For an audience that is so well-versed in ‘Scream’ [films] and in what happens and who becomes the killer, it’s trickier to throw them a curveball,” she said. “I think they’ve done a really cool job with the script. We’ve had a blast working on it.”
Panettiere also praised her co-stars and director Wes Craven.
“Wes Craven is not only the nicest human being but also a brilliant director. And it’s all the original cast as well: Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, and David Arquette. We’ve got an incredible new cast joining us, and we have a pretty good team.” She hinted at her character Kirby, describing her as “edgy, sassy, and smart. She’s a very strong character.”
