Mason Gooding says Scream 7 is “domestic, homely and unconventional” and praises Kevin Williamson’s return as director.
Mason Gooding is giving fans a small — but intriguing — peek at what’s in store when Scream 7 hits theaters.
“I’ll say [the movie is] domestic, I’ll say it’s homely and unconventional,” Gooding told Us Weekly about the upcoming horror film.
What does that mean? Perhaps a return to a central setting — whether it’s a single town, a home with history, or an environment that forces the original final girl and killer into dangerously close quarters. But according to Gooding, don’t expect anything predictable.
The Scream 5 and Scream VI star, who plays Chad Meeks-Martin, also opened up about having Kevin Williamson behind the camera for the first time.
“From a creative standpoint, [he] is the dream, because he created that world,” Gooding explained. “So having a level of understanding and world building and in background and ethos of just the concept in general of Scream, was incredibly gratifying and also led to a greater understanding of the lifeblood of the series as a whole.”
While Chad may be “one piece of the greater machination” of the Scream universe, Gooding — both as a cast member and as a fan — believes Williamson’s direction will be an “all encompassing edition to the movies that can hit on all those tone and world building elements that you maybe hope for in a sequel, or just in a franchise in general.”
With the return of Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, and other legacy players, Scream 7 is shaping up to be both familiar and unexpected — just the way Ghostface likes it.
