Creative Differences in Scream 4: Kevin Williamson Speaks Out

Kevin Williamson addresses creative clashes over Scream 4 with Bob Weinstein. Get the details in EW’s special feature, hitting stands this Friday!

Entertainment Weekly has offered a preview of their explosive cover story, diving into what they call “The Bloody Battle Over Scream 4.” Long-rumored creative tensions between the production team and the creative minds behind the film have finally been addressed—and screenwriter Kevin Williamson himself breaks his silence.

Everyone was second-guessing everything, because everyone wanted it to be so perfect,” Williamson explains.

According to Williamson, his creative disagreements with producer Bob Weinstein escalated to a boiling point:

Oh, I got in a big fight with Bob. We got into a massive fight creatively, and we hugged it out and then we moved on.

Weinstein, however, downplays the conflict, citing timing rather than creativity as the source of tension:

It was a time crunch. I think the only real fight was not creative, but, ‘We gotta get this goin’! It’s a train. It’s moving.’”

The pair hasn’t spoken since the film’s completion, and Williamson—at the time of the interview—had yet to see the finished movie. Despite this, both parties maintain that there is no lingering animosity.

This special edition of Entertainment Weekly, featuring exclusive behind-the-scenes insights and commentary, hits stands Friday. Fans can also visit their Facebook page for a behind-the-scenes photoshoot video available exclusively in the “Fans Only” section.
