SCREAM 7: The return of Campbell and Williamson

As the ultimate final girl returns, original ‘SCREAM’ scribe Kevin Williamson takes the director’s chair.

Neve Campbell has declared her return as Sidney Prescott in the eagerly anticipated SCREAM 7, stirring excitement among fans. This installment brings a twist, with Kevin Williamson, the original creator of the SCREAM narrative, stepping in as director, a role previously not associated with him. The screenplay for this chapter is the sole work of Guy Busick – with story by him and James Vanderbilt (SCREAM 20222 and SCREAM VI)

While many supporters are ecstatic about Campbell’s return following her departure from SCREAM VI over pay disputes, a significant portion of the fandom is dissatisfied.

Spyglass Media Company has faced a wave of criticism following the contentious dismissal of Melissa Barrera, who had voiced solidarity with victims in Palestine. Barrera shared her poignant experiences at a SCREAM panel during the Planet Comic Con Event in Kansas City.

The repercussions of her firing led to the exit of director Christopher Landon and the announcement that actress Jenna Ortega also wasn’t committed to the project. Amidst these upheavals, the studio’s focus shifted towards bringing back Campbell and considering Patrick Dempsey, in an attempt to recover from the PR crisis.

Williamson, renowned for his screenplay prowess within the SCREAM world and for directing the 1999 film ‘Teaching Mrs. Tingle‘ featuring Helen Mirren, is not credited as a writer for ‘SCREAM 7.  This strategic move of appointing Williamson is seen as a masterstroke, igniting a fresh wave of creative intrigue for the franchise.
