Neve Campbell has just released a statement in which she declares: “Sadly I won’t be making the next SCREAM film.”
“As a woman, I have had to work extremely hard in my career to establish my value, especially when it comes to SCREAM, I felt the offer that was presented to me did not equate to the value I have brought to the franchise.”
“It’s been a very difficult decision to move on. To all my SCREAM fans, I love you. You’ve always been so incredibly supportive to me. I’m forever grateful to you and to what this franchise has given me over the past 25 years.”
Yesterday (6/5), the notifications started blipping on social media. Reportedly, during her appearance at Monsterpalooza Convention last Friday (6/4), Campbell had affirmed to some fans that she “turned down” the opportunity to join the cast of the already highly anticipated SCREAM 6.
It didn’t take long for my DMs to be flooded with the questions: Is it true? Is Neve Campbell not in SCREAM 6? For seasoned vintage fans, like myself, the familiar shadow of this question looms over every SCREAM lover at the production of every sequel.
To those who have read my latest articles, considering that the script is reportedly complete and the filming is about to start, the notion that Sidney Prescott wasn’t an integral part of this sequel seemed more evident with each day that passed.
Neve Campbell had a blast filming SCREAM (2022) and has praised the creators, screenwriters James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick, and directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett. And let’s not forget, these are the imaginative guys who found ingenious ways to bring back SCREAM fan favorites Skeet Ulrich, Heather Matarazzo, and most recently Hayden Panettiere.
So, hopefully, maybe we will get to see our beloved Sidney Prescott again someday in the future.
Meanwhile, the SCREAM fandom is deeply grateful for the powerful, significant, representative, and emotional work this charismatic actress has brought to our lives.
Thank you, Neve!
Thank you, Sid!
