It’s official: Scream 4 is set to be the franchise’s bloodiest installment yet. During the Scre4m Art Exhibition at Hyaena Gallery in Burbank, CA, Bloody Disgusting caught up with assistant prop master Skip Crank and makeup artist Gary Tunnicliffe, who teased what fans can expect from Ghostface’s goriest return.
According to Skip Crank, Scream 4 ramps up both the blood and the suspense:
“We got a little bloodier on this one, a little bit more intense.”
He also teased surprise appearances:
“There are a lot of people in the film that show up that nobody knows about. It’ll be a big surprise. There are a lot of pictures out there that have people speculating…and that’s exactly what we intended to do. So you think you know what’s gonna happen, but you’re wrong.”
Makeup artist Gary Tunnicliffe revealed just how much fake blood was spilled during production, recalling the reactions from the crew:
“Every time I walked on set, the camera crew would go, ‘Oh, no!’ All [of them] would look down and see what shoes they were wearing that day. (…) And Wes [Craven] was like, ‘You pussies! It’s a horror film!’”
He also hinted at prolonged and agonizing death scenes:
“I know for a fact that one thing the MPAA always really hates is prolonged suffering. And there’s a couple of [kills in the movie]…that [are] like a five-minute death scene. They go on forever, and ever, and ever.”
Production photos shared during the event hinted at just how graphic Scream 4 will be. One image depicted a person’s legs dangling from a living room ceiling, while another showed a young female victim arranged in her bed in a manner reminiscent of a crime scene photograph. These gruesome visuals promise to take the franchise’s horror to unsettling new heights.
One standout photo from the exhibition reveals Woodsboro High’s interior and how the late Principal Himbry (Scream, 1996) is remembered. Joining this shot is prop master Skip Crank alongside Hayden Panettiere as Kirby, looking right at home in the high school setting. Observant fans might also notice a fun Easter egg: a piece of Final Destination 4 poster art tucked into a locker.
In another pic, even Ghostface needs a moment to catch their breath after all those staircase chases! This humorous shot features an intriguing autograph visible in part, addressed “To Kirby.” The detail hints that Kirby might just be the ultimate Stab fanatic—a subtle nod to her character’s love of horror movies.
With more blood, prolonged suspense, and surprises in store, Scream 4 is shaping up to be a brutal yet thrilling return for Ghostface. Prepare for carnage candy when the film slashes its way into theaters.
