While promoting her latest horror film Relic, Emily Mortimer took a moment to reflect on the director who gave her one of her earliest opportunities in Hollywood—the legendary Wes Craven.
Best known to Scream fans as Angelina Tyler in Scream 3, Mortimer shared how Craven played a pivotal role in launching her career in the U.S.
“I did this audition, got the job, and it was Wes Craven. I truly owe him a lot. That was before Lovely and Amazing, and I’m sure I wouldn’t have landed that role if I hadn’t already been in a movie and done an American accent,” she revealed to Collider‘s Perri Nemiroff.
A Director Who Championed His Actors
Mortimer described Craven as a quiet force, someone who advocated for her and believed in her talent.
“He was a real advocate for me, and I loved working with him. He was the most gentle, intelligent, quietly spoken person, yet possessed such great humor and insight. He was incredibly kind, and for some reason, he really took to me.”
Their collaboration didn’t stop with Scream 3. Craven personally invited her to star in his segment of Paris, je t’aime and even selected her to be styled as Audrey Hepburn for a special New York Times feature.
“After working with him on Scream 3, I went on to do Paris, je t’aime with him. It was the first one, and he chose me for that project.”
