The Scream Trilogy became a stepping stone for several rising stars in the 90s, and Liev Schreiber, now widely recognized for Ray Donovan, was one of its standout beneficiaries.
Schreiber shared how his journey with Scream began, recalling his first casting experience. “Bob Weinstein, a theatre fan, called me into his office and offered me a part. I was $70,000 in debt from student loans, looking for any job. He told me all I had to do was walk down some stairs and get into a police car. Twenty seconds. Twenty grand. I was like, ‘I’m yours.’”
For Schreiber, the experience was surreal. “They flew me to Los Angeles first class. I couldn’t believe it. It turned into a huge phenomenon, and they kindly offered me a role in the second film.” His character, Cotton Weary, evolved into a pivotal player in Scream 2, and by Scream 3, Schreiber was ready to embrace a dramatic exit:
“I was like, ‘Alright, can you kill me now?’ Not because I was tired of the series, but I thought it would be fun to get covered in blood.”
Reflecting on the trilogy’s impact on his career, Schreiber expressed gratitude:
“I owe them a lot. I never thought I’d get anywhere near that kind of world—I wouldn’t be talking to you without it.”
