From Yellowstone to Woodsboro: Isabel May in Talks for Scream 7 as Sidney Prescott’s daughter.
The Scream franchise might be expanding its family. According to The Hollywood Reporter and Variety, Isabel May, best known for her performances in the Yellowstone prequels 1883 and 1923, is in talks to join Neve Campbell in Scream 7 in a pivotal role: Sidney Prescott’s daughter.
Meanwhile, Deadline reported not only that May has been cast but also confirmed Courteney Cox. “The latest Scream continues on with original OG cast members Campbell, natch, but also Courteney Cox as Gale Weathers,” Deadline stated.
If – or most likely, when – finalized, this would mark Isabel May’s first step into the horror genre, showcasing a new side of her acting career. Known for her standout roles in dramatic projects, May delivered memorable performances as Elsa Dutton in 1883 and 1923, anchoring the emotional narratives of those prequels. On the big screen, she took on an intense role in Run Hide Fight (2020), playing a high school student navigating a school shooting—proving her ability to handle high-stakes and emotionally charged material. She has also showcased her versatility in lighter projects, such as the romantic comedy I Want You Back (2022), and her recurring role as Veronica Duncan in Young Sheldon.
The decision represents a shift from earlier script ideas for Scream (2022) and Scream VI, where Sidney and Mark Kincaid’s (Patrick Dempsey) eldest of three children, Hannah, was originally envisioned as being only 10 years old. The casting of Isabel May, who turns 24 today (born November 21, 2000), reflects the franchise decision to resonate with younger audiences while maintaining ties to longtime fans.
This announcement also coincides exactly with the one-year anniversary of Spyglass’s controversial decision to part ways with Melissa Barrera, a move that polarized the franchise’s fanbase. This could explain why the casting announcements appear to be cautious, with filming reportedly set to begin in December 2024 in Atlanta. Barrera’s exit, coupled with Jenna Ortega quietly stepping away, prompted a creative reset for Scream 7, shifting the focus back to Sidney Prescott and her family.
Scream 7 is scheduled for theatrical release on February 27, 2026.
