In a surprising turn of events for the SCREAM franchise, Jenna Ortega, known for her role as Tara Carpenter, is not expected to return for SCREAM 7. Just a day following Melissa Barrera‘s exit from the project, stated by Spyglass Media Group, Deadline announced the conclusion of the Carpenters era in the series.
According to their sources, this development is reportedly due to Ortega’s busy schedule, particularly her commitments to the hit Netflix series “Wednesday“, rather than any fallout from the recent dismissal of her co-star Melissa Barrera from the seventh chapter. The decision not to return was made months ago, with Ortega notifying studio Spyglass of her unavailability due to the scheduling conflict with the Addams Family revival.
The Carpenter Sisters’ absence from SCREAM VII is significant, considering their impactful roles in SCREAM VI, which achieved the franchise’s best opening grosses ever at $44.4M domestically and $67M globally. Their performance was a key factor in the success of the sixth and fifth installments, making their departure a notable loss for future films.
As the franchise prepares for its seventh installment, fans will undoubtedly miss their charisma.
