Neve Campbell Confirms Scream 8 Return: “I’ll Be in It”

Neve Campbell will reprise Sidney Prescott in Scream 8. Here’s the latest on the sequel’s writers, director rumors and the franchise’s next chapter.

Sidney Prescott isn’t done yet. Neve Campbell has confirmed she will return for Scream 8, sharing the news with the Associated Press in London while promoting the second season of Black Doves.

“Now you know I can never tell you anything about Scream 8,” she said. “I’ll be in it.”

Four words. And a considerably safer choice than “I’ll be right back.” Randy would appreciate that.

Who’s making Scream 8?

The next chapter has been in development at Spyglass since at least March, when Lilla and Nora Zuckerman were reported to be writing the screenplay. The sisters previously served as showrunners on Poker Face, with credits including Fringe, Suits and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Their experience keeping an audience guessing should come in handy.

Campbell has also offered a concrete update on the screenplay: early drafts are already in. “I’m giving notes,” she told Official Pop Drop in a separate interview, confirming that she is already weighing in on Sidney’s next chapter.

The directing job remains open, at least officially. Kevin Williamson told HelloSidney in March that he wouldn’t return behind the camera after Scream 7.

“I don’t always have to write or direct. Other people can take the reins.”

Jen and Sylvia Soska have been among the names circulating since August, when the American Mary filmmakers responded to speculation with an eyes emoji. On October 22, Production Weekly listed the twins as directors, alongside Campbell in the cast. Neither Spyglass nor Paramount has confirmed their appointment. Campbell has now confirmed her own involvement; the directing report remains unconfirmed.

Sidney’s next chapter

After Campbell sat out Scream VI over a salary dispute, another Sidney-led sequel was hardly inevitable. Scream 7 brought her back alongside Williamson, with Isabel May playing Sidney’s daughter, Tatum. It went on to become the franchise’s highest-grossing installment, passing $200 million worldwide.

Conversations about an eighth film had already begun on that set. At the Scream 7 premiere, Williamson told Deadline that late-night brainstorming led to an idea from Campbell that caught everyone’s attention.

“Neve had this great idea, and everyone seemed to run with it.”

What that idea was, and whether it makes its way into the Zuckermans’ screenplay, remains to be seen. Her return gives us one answer without giving away the next movie.

Before Ghostface calls again

Campbell’s next appearance arrives much sooner. Black Doves Season 2 premieres on Netflix this Thursday, November 5, with Campbell joining Keira Knightley, Ben Whishaw and Sarah Lancashire as Cecile Mason, an American defense envoy entering London’s intelligence games.

As for Scream 8, a release date and further casting announcements are still pending. But the woman who first answered the phone thirty years ago has confirmed she’ll be there.

Hello again, Sidney.
