Wes Craven Talks the Possibilities of Scream 5 & Scream 6

Wes Craven discusses the future of Scream, teasing potential storylines for Sidney Prescott, Gale Weathers, and Dewey Riley in a new trilogy.

Since the early days of Scream 4‘s production, the idea of a new trilogy has been a recurring topic of discussion between Kevin Williamson and Wes Craven. Script treatments were reportedly delivered by phone to Bob Weinstein, who embraced Williamson’s concept with enthusiasm. In an interview with MTV, Craven shared some thoughts on what the future of the franchise might hold:

I imagine the core characters will continue,” he said of Sidney Prescott, Gale Weathers, and Dewey Riley. “I suspect they’ll be with us until the end because they just are the heart and soul of the movie. And especially since we tend to kill off most of the other people,” he added with a hearty laugh. “They’ll be with us. There will be some continuation of the drama of Sidney Prescott’s family and the ghosts that haunt it.

This comment inevitably recalls the Neil Prescott storyline that was cut from Scream 4. Perhaps the idea was held back because it deserved more space and development in a future installment.
