Scream 5 follows the franchise tradition of fake scripts and decoy endings to keep fans guessing — even before the movie hits theaters.
Red herrings have always been part of Scream’s DNA — and this time, they’re spilling beyond the screen.
For longtime fans, it’s no surprise: since Scream 2, the biggest challenge for every new installment has been keeping the ending secret and spoilers off the internet. To protect those twists, the filmmakers began crafting dummy scripts and alternate scenes — a clever trick that became a signature move for the franchise.
Now, it seems Radio Silence has fully embraced that legacy with Scream 5.
Radio Silence keeps the secret alive
In an interview with Bloody Disgusting, the directors confirmed that multiple fake scripts and even different cuts of the film were created to prevent leaks.
It’s a page straight out of Wes Craven and Kevin Williamson’s playbook — a modern echo of the series’ most legendary behind-the-scenes precautions.
A future of surprises
Does that mean we’ll see alternate endings or deleted scenes when Scream 5 eventually hits home media?
Probably — and fans wouldn’t want it any other way.
After all, half the fun of Scream is guessing who’s behind the mask — and this time, the mystery begins long before the first phone rings.
🎥 Scream (2022) will be released in theaters on January 14, 2022.
