It’s been a rough evening for SCREAM fans. Some are devasted by the structural financial culture that doesn’t meet the same point for male and female stars. Others are watching for the young actors, directors, and an entire crew working their best to ignite a career in a business that creates dreams – even though it is an industry that is not so dreamy behind the scenes.
Back in July, Neve Campbell made a statement revealing she wouldn’t be a part of SCREAM 6 due to divergence in a salary agreement – which she considered not equated to the value she brought to the franchise.
“I couldn’t walk on set feeling that — feeling undervalued and feeling the unfairness, or lack of fairness, around that,” she told to People Magazine while promoting a fantastic new campaign for American Red Cross.
But does she understand the impact this has on the current film? Emphatic as she is, she sure does:
“This young cast, it saddens me that my departure might have some effect. But at the same time, I needed to stand up for myself, so I hope that they still had a good time and good experience with the film. I wish them well. It was just unfortunate, it’s not how it should have gone and my feeling truly is: had I been a man in this franchise – 25 years, five movies, the offer would have been very different.”
This leads us to think that she is also taking this subject in favor of future generations of young actresses. But would this predicament have a solution?
“I’m not just done with the chapter. I care about these movies. If they were to come to me with an amount that felt in keeping with… the value that I bring them, I would certainly consider it. I care about these new directors [Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett]. They did such a great job on the last one and I wish them luck.”
So, there is hope after all…
