Rodrigo Kurtz, Graphic Designer & Webmaster
Ever since I can remember, I’ve had a fondness for scary movies; it’s been a part of me as long as I’ve known myself. Growing up as an 80s child meant being born into a world that had just been introduced to iconic slashers like Halloween, Friday the 13th, and Nightmare on Elm Street. Those times proved to be pivotal, shaping the very foundation of the entire genre.
Then, in Brazil, at the age of 16, SCREAM entered my life, altering my perspective on films forever and profoundly impacting both my professional and personal realms. Undoubtedly, many of you experienced the same transformation.
It was the beginning of my graphic design career, when I constructed my very first website, in Portuguese, and entirely devoted to this cinematic gem. However, it wasn’t until 2011, when SCREAM 4 received the green light, that HelloSidney.com became a reality.
It was something I did to hone my English skills and, at the same time, connect with fans from all around the globe.
With each passing day, the site expanded, drawing the attention of prominent and legendary people such as Wes Craven, Kevin Williamson, R.J. Torbert (from Fun World), David Arquette, Roger L. Jackson, Patrick Lussier, and several other individuals involved in the making of the film.
To our surprise and utter bewilderment, not only did some of them acknowledge our efforts, but they also took it a step further by interacting and even starting to follow the website on social networks.
Another moment of pride was contributing to the documentary titled “Scream: The Inside Story” for Bio Channel and receiving due credit for my involvement. Perhaps the most thrilling aspect was seeing the poster I had designed for the documentary become the disc label of the official Blu-ray of the (then) Scream Trilogy.
After that, a plethora of cool things have unfolded, such as…
- Interviewing the cast and crew (see below);
- Embarking on a visit to the hallowed grounds of “Woodsboro”;
- Engaging in an unforgettable video call with Neve Campbell;
- Being gifted with incredible memorabilia [1, 2, 3, 4, 5…];
- Actively participating in the official marketing campaign for the fifth film; and
- Sending a gift to the crew that appears in SCREAM VI.
Adding to the excitement, in 2022 and 2023, the site collaborated with some cool brands. Handmade By Robots extended a special invitation to HelloSidney.com for exclusive participation in two of their remarkable creations.
The Bloody Ghost Face Vinyl Figurine proved so popular that it sold out within a mere 4 hours of preordering.
For that 16-year-old Brazilian fan, that still lives inside of me, this has been quite an unbeliavable ride.
I’ll be forever grateful for this unforgettable experience!
