In June, we reported breaking news about MTV’s plans to develop a TV series based on the Scream film franchise. Unfortunately, server issues led to the article’s disappearance. Here’s the scoop once again, along with some intriguing updates.
According to TVLine, MTV is creating a weekly series inspired by Scream. Former MTV executives Tony DiSanto and Liz Gateley are spearheading the project under their DiGa production banner. However, the series is still in its early stages, with the search for a writer to craft the pilot currently underway.
What’s less clear is whether Scream masterminds Kevin Williamson and Wes Craven will be involved. Their potential role remains unknown, leaving fans to speculate about the series’ creative direction.
Ghostface’s Role: Still Undecided
Ghostface’s return is also up in the air. A revealing exchange on Twitter between fan @JoshieB93 and R.J. Torbert, the “Godfather of Ghostface,” shed some light on the situation:
- Tweet from @JoshieB93: “@RJTorbert Do me (and numerous other GF fans) a huge favor? When MTV comes to you for permission to use Ghostface in their show, just say no?”
- Reply from @RJTorbert: “U R first to know. Good timing—I spoke to MTV—as of now there is nothing to talk about.”
So, while a Scream series may be in development, Ghostface’s involvement isn’t confirmed.
