Long before Alison Brie became a household name, she was already a passionate Scream fan. So much so that she and her friends once created an amateur remake of the iconic slasher film. However, when she landed a role in Scream 4, she had to keep her fandom under wraps on set to avoid coming off as too obsessed.
During an interview with IGN at the Scream Awards, Brie opened up about her character, Rebecca Walters, and her admiration for Scream’s razor-sharp journalist, Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox).
When asked about Rebecca, Brie said, “She works for Sidney Prescott and she’s a little go-getter. She really admires Gale Weathers. I’ll put it that way. She kind of has a little bit of Gale in her, I think. She’ll really do anything to get ahead.”
Brie also revealed how her insider knowledge of the franchise made her a quiet authority on set. “I wouldn’t just come out and be like, ‘Bring all your Scream questions to me!’” she joked. Instead, she subtly corrected conversations when cast members misremembered a scene or plot detail, careful not to let her enthusiasm get the better of her.
The actress admitted that her excitement extended to wondering if her character might have a killer edge. “Absolutely!” she exclaimed when asked if she hoped to wield the knife. “That thought crossed my mind, and I was excited by that prospect. We’ll have to see the movie to see!”
