Lucy Hale has become one of the most talkative cast members when it comes to Scream 4. Don’t get us wrong—she keeps the big secrets under wraps, but she’s been dropping intriguing hints about her role. Could she be this generation’s Drew Barrymore? Lucy, pass the popcorn—we’re ready!
In an interview with Screen Junkies, Hale shared more about her involvement in the film, including how her appearance came to be and her excitement about joining the cult-favorite franchise:
“It’s a small role, which I was very happy to play,” Hale said. “I’m at the beginning of the movie. They literally made me sign stuff that I couldn’t say much about it, but it’s very exciting. It was very exciting for me to be a part of it and meet Wes Craven, who’s an absolute sweetheart. I didn’t know what to expect, but it was fun.”
“To be a part that has a cult following, to look back at Drew Barrymore’s opening scene and be like, ‘I’m a part of this. This is unreal. It’s really cool.’”
“It was totally last minute. I got the call, and they were like, ‘They totally want you to be a part of this movie,’ and I was like, ‘Absolutely. I will do any part.’ I was actually originally supposed to do another part and would come back for Scream 5, but it didn’t work with the schedule. So I did a few scenes.”
“If they would have me, I would absolutely be there because I know that they’re planning on doing a few more movies. I don’t know if I’ll be a part of them, but that would be awesome.”
“I’m a huge horror movie fan, but just like my generation, Scream was a big deal. We grew up with it. I’m just a huge horror movie fan in general, though.”
It’s fascinating to think about the role Hale was initially considered for and how it might have tied into Scream 5. While we’ll have to wait to see her bloody cameo, it’s safe to say her scenes—whether in the iconic opening or alongside Shenae Grimes—will leave an impression.
