SCREAM 6 promises to be one of next year’s most fun and scary rides when it hits theatres on March 10, 2023. The new movie, set in NYC during the spooky month, will be action and gore-packed, intense, and full of surprises.
Originally scheduled to be released on March 31, 2023, it was recently preponed, opening the marketing season of the new movie – which campaign we expect to be as fun and fan-rewarding as the previous one.
As we wait for a trailer, the teasing for the sixth chapter is coming from the stars, Jenna Ortega and Melissa Barrera, who have spoken about their character and the tone of the new film.
While promoting “Wednesday“, streaming on Netflix on November 23, Jenna told a little bit more about what happened with Tara after she left Woodsboro to start a new life in Manhattan:
“The second one was really interesting because, yeah, she was a bit more of a real person. She is interacting with the other characters more. [For] like I never had scenes with Jasmin Savoy Brown or Mason Gooding in the last one. So it was nice to actually work with my castmates. Not just Ghostface.”
“But then, also, it was really wonderful just kind of furthering the relationship between Melissa Barrera’s character, Sam Carpenter and creating this distinction between them. It was nice because I kind of took her performance and pushed the other route in terms of ‘Okay, Tara’s gonna be super feminine and super sensitive or a bit more dramatic or a bit more, you know, embracing her teenage side.’ And that was really fun for me as well, especially with Ghostface that’s more gruesome than ever. It was nice to kind of play a sensitive feminine girl who’s still strong. I only want to play strong people and she was… She’s strong.”
Some time ago, during the press interviews for “Keep Breathing”, Melissa Barrera also talked about these characters’ interactions and how screenwriters James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick got inspired by her real-life friendship with Courteney Cox to use that onscreen:
“There’s more of Sam and Gale, for sure. And that’s really cool because I feel that the writers did a really good job of… Now that they’ve seen us, now that they know us, everything like kind of mashes. They take some things from real life and try to infuse them into [the script] because these movies are always very meta.”
But, if there is a lot of Ms. Weathers, the media is naturally curious about how the film will work in the absence of Neve Campbell, to which Jenna replied, in another “Wednesday” interview:
“There’s references to Sidney, of course. You know, it’s nice because there’s still a protectiveness in the script and that’s something that the actors had naturally over her because obviously we respect her and we want the best for her. She’s missed and thought of.”
In the same video, she also spoke about how intense SCREAM 6 is going to be:
“There’s so much going on in this next one, that it’s so action-heavy and so gore-heavy that I think you’re gonna be distracted almost.”
And, after probably hearing a lot of Twitter complaints about the lack of chase scenes in SCREAM 2022, Ortega addressed that on the red carpet at the Celebration of Latino Cinema & Television Event:
“I’m so excited about it because there’s a lot of good chase sequences, kind of reminiscent of… in SCREAM 2 there’s a chase between Gale and Ghostface through the lab. I feel like we have a lot of stuff like that in the second one.”
In time, Mason Gooding – who celebrated his birthday yesterday – published an emotional and cute post about his castmates and friends from the franchise, with cool behind-the-scenes photos. Be sure to check it out.
