An extensive look at SCREAM VI has just dropped: new photos, a sneak peek of the trailer that will come out tomorrow (19), and some details about the plot. Most of it was revealed by an Entertainment Weekly article this morning.

Here we have all that we were starved for. Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox) and Kirby (Hayden Panettiere) doing some investigation, Dermot Mulroney’s NYP character receives a disturbing call, and our four Woodsboro survivors appear to be very distressed. Well, as the sneak peek at the trailer shows, Tara (Jenna Ortega) and Samantha (Melissa Barrera) are being hunted by a Ghost Face with a shotgun, so things will get a lot more savage in New York.

The movie, which will have a runtime of 118 minutes (the longest after SCREAM 2), is set in the Big Apple and shows our heroes struggling with the events from the past, as Melissa Barrera tells:

These kids are running away, and Ghostface is still finding them in the most beautiful city but also the most terrifying because it’s so crowded and it can be aggressive. […] Not a lot of time has passed since the last movie. Pretty much, the amount of time that we’ve had between one movie and the other is the amount of time that has passed in their world. So the trauma is still very fresh. One of my favorite parts about this movie is that we really get to see how the happenings of the last movie affected them. We get to really see the baggage that they’re carrying now and how each of them is dealing with it differently.

There’s a lot of tension between her and Sam,” tells Jenna Ortega. “Sam feels as though she’s too protective and unwilling to allow them both to move on. She feels suffocated.”

But not everything is sisterly drama and carnage candy. Ortega had fun with some meta film parallels:

When I first saw Samara [Weaving] on set, they were shooting footage of the background actors walking in the subway, all dressed for Halloween. There’s a lot of Easter eggs in the costumes, and one of them was Samara’s character from Ready or Not, and right as I approached the monitor next to Samara, her old character walked by. It was just a strange coincidence.

Hayden Panettiere, who is back as Kirby Reed, talked about her character, who is rumored to be an FBI agent:

She’s come a long way. What happened to her has obviously impacted her life, and it sends her in a certain direction, but she’s still the same old Kirby at the heart of it. She’s just a little older, a little wiser, but just as spitfire-y, and snarky, and all that good stuff.
