“It’s gonna be a killer 2026.”
On the first day of October, with Spooky Season in full swing, Neve Campbell and Kevin Williamson took to social media to officially announce the release date of Scream VII: February 27, 2026 – 30 years after the original.
Directed by its original creator, Kevin Williamson, the cast of Scream 7 currently has only two confirmed additions: Neve Campbell and Roger L. ‘The Voice‘ Jackson, who announced his return during a convention.
The return of Patrick Dempsey and Courteney Cox is anticipated, with Cox recently confirming she is in talks, saying, “They’re rewriting all the time. It’s not like I don’t know what’s going on.”
The script, penned by Guy Busick—who also co-wrote Scream (2022) and Scream VI with James Vanderbilt—will once again focus on Sidney Prescott, in a manner akin to the 2018 Halloween trilogy.
Filming is expected to begin in Atlanta between December 2024 and January 2025, according to Production Weekly, a magazine that provides updates on film and television productions.
The same magazine also revealed an intriguing spin-off film in development, which would focus on FBI Agent Kirby Reed, played by Hayden Panettiere, investigating a new series of Ghostface murders.
With a tumultuous production history—following the removal of actress Melissa Barrera and the departure of both Jenna Ortega and previously attached director Christopher Landon—Scream VII faced backlash from a segment of fans and underwent a complete creative reboot. This will be the first film in the franchise to take nearly a year from filming to release.
Little is known about the plot of Scream VII, but considering hints from the last two films that briefly touched on Sidney Prescott’s married life with Mark Kincaid (Dempsey) and their children, it seems likely that the Prescott-Kincaid family will be the main target this time.
In the lost Scream VI script, Sidney’s appearance was obliterated after negotiations with Neve Campbell fell through. The ultimate final girl was said to have three young daughters and a happy marriage. In June, HelloSidney.com exclusively revealed details of what her appearance would have entailed, and some of these elements might make their way into the Scream VII storyline.
With Scream VI breaking records for the franchise’s biggest opening weekend at $44.5 million and grossing over $166.3 million globally, expectations for Scream VII are sky-high.
